08/09 Season Opener in Soelden

Hi There Everyone!

That’s Me and Franzl, a Fan from Austria
Julia in Soelden with a fan

I find it impossible to believe that the WC season has already started! Seems like just yesterday I was up on Kilimanjaro with Chems and Lauren and then in that crazy other-world called Beijing.

It was quite a busy summer, and so I had to get rolling on hardcore training and treatment in a hurry. My body treatments, as well as on-snow and dryland training is dialed in now and I can see it coming together.

I know, the standings from the Soelden GS might not prove this, but hey, a bobble is a bobble. When you watch the replay of the Soelden GS run, you’ll see that I messed up at the very last section of the 1st run, losing a little more than a second on time. Arrrgh… I felt good up until that point and just, hmmm… just kinda lost it I guess.

That’s cool though… There are many things that are coming together rather nicely though. You may remember that last year I had trouble dialing in to the new skis (new FIS regulations forced the skis to change), and I just couldn’t get my groove. The start of this season got me really excited when I hopped on the new Rossi’s that we tested and developed after the end of last season. They’re pretty sweet and I’ve got new found excitement to click in and go. Speaking of being excited about their new Rossi’s, the kids at the Welch Village Junior Race Program look like Christmas came early! So awesome! Rip it up guys!

I’m heading back to Maui for some good, solid dryland training and body treatment (we’re STILL working my hip from that 2006 surgery I had) and of course, to hit that surf. Big waves have arrived I’m told and I’ll get my last fix before the deep freeze winter ushers in. I’ll write to you from Maui again…

Ohhhh and I wanted to show you my Soelden GS run, but Stephan hasn’t been able to get it up yet. For now, you can head over to Universal Sports and check out the recap. I run #1, so you won’t have to wait through the entire thing to check out my mess-up.

Alright… I hope no matter where you are in the world, that you continue to stretch yourselves, continue to go beyond the status quo, beyond what you know and have been conditioned to. Be safe, RIP IT UP, and love your neighbor.

Bussi from Austria!

XOXO
Jules

World Cup Season Starting Off!

Well, the time has come! The 08/09 World Cup Season has arrived and boy is it lining up to be a GREAT YEAR of SKIING…

There’s a full schedule of great races at amazing places all over Europe and some in North America AND not to forget the February World Championships in Val D’Isere, France. Jam-packed action all winter long.

Here’s a little blast from the past… last year’s Soelden World Cup Opener. Jules pulled off a 2nd place start. Can’t wait to check out the action tomorrow (Saturday).

This year, all of you in Europe can catch most of the live action on TV. What channel depends obviously on what country you live it. To our knowledge all the same TV deals are in tact this year, so there shouldn’t be much of a change from last. There is an online live broadcast option for Europe too now, but I can’t remember what URL… anybody remember?

In North America, WCSN.com turned into Universal Sports. I’m not sure what the deal is there, but it seems that their live broadcasts are free during beta testing phase. Check it out at http://universalsports.com.

Other than that, tune in tomorrow … check your local listings for coverage. Julia runs #1, so make sure you make it on time!

Ciao,

Stephan

Happy Raffle Winners

Hi Everyone!

Stephan here, just letting you know that last spring’s reaffle winners are starting to show off their prizes! Here we have Joel who donated the Rossignol Matrix skis to the Junior Race Program and raised a bunch of money for the kids. Super cool… now all they need is a little snow and the new generation of rippers will be even happier than on these pics!

The Julia Mancuso Raffle Made for Some Super Happy Kids!

no snow yet, but the girls are happy!

Welch Village Picnic was a Huge Success

What’s that guy on top of the lift doing?

Joel emailed me and said: “Here are a couple pics of some of the kids in the Welch Village jr race program with the raffle skis. Many thanks to you and Jules and everyone at Snowwelivin and Rossignol. It was our best kick off picnic yet.

Thanks again, Joel”

You’re welcome Joel! We look forward to doing it again next spring.

Pre-Season Action

Aloha to all my summer friends. The time has come to get out of the Islands and off to Europe!

I leave tomorrow to get back into it, and I am very excited. I will be heading to Salzburg where I will meet up with Kazuko once again.

She has been traveling all over Italy and Japan since the last time I saw her, so I am looking forward to the update on adventures. I am always up for a good adventure story! So please share:)

For those of you looking for some more details in my schedule, I will be training in Soelden and Pitztal. Hoping to get ready for the race coming up soon! It has been a tough summer for me on the training side of things. A couple of minor injuries holding me back and making me feel like I need to take a step back.

All in all I look at every little bump in the road as an opportunity to learn and move forward.

From this experience I have regained a little passion for the my need for speed, and I am totally psyched to get back out there! As much fun as all my adventures are, its really all about pointing them down the hill! But just to keep you busy until next time I decide to break out the keyboard, here are some shots of my most recent adventures!
