Family Trip to Yosemite

Hi Everyone! First of all, I want to thank you for your heartfelt concerns about the Lake Tahoe fires. I’ve received messages, emails and comments from all over asking whether we’re OK. While a lot of people out there are not doing so well right now (my thoughts go out to them), we’re OK on our side of the lake. The fire is on the opposite side and we seem to be spared for now. Below is a picture slideshow from my recent Yosemite National Park trip with my family. It was a great time… rock climbing, waterfalls, hiking, …. If you’ve never been there, I definitely recommend it (it’s got the tallest trees you’ll ever see!) Also, things are going really well out here in Hawaii… training is coming along and I’m out on the water surfing, standup paddling or kiting every day… I’d love to hear how some of you are spending your summer days! Post a comment! Alright… that’s it for now. Hope to hear from you! Aloha, Jules

Rock Running

I love to mixup my workouts. Just hitting the gym and working the stationary bike and weights alone has never been my thing. Gotta keep it interesting!

So, here and there we’ll throw in a rock-running session.

Running rocks involves a good sandy bottom beach with a large area underwater to work with, a large rock that will hold your body underwater and the sheer willpower to endure this type of training. You dive down (usually about 10 feet or so), grab hold of the rock, lean forward and start to sprint underwater while holding the rock. They run as far as they can, then let go, surface for air and repeat these steps until tired.

Rock running improves your stamina, strength and ability to hold breath underwater.

A Lanai Get-Away

Its been a crazy few weeks, with lots of friends and teammates in town!  I guess the word is out that Maui is the place to be!!!  Keely Kelleher, Megan McJames, and Hailey Duke were cruising around Maui causing trouble only as skiers can! Also my coach Chris, and dryland coach
Ernie came by to check out our setup here.

There is just so much to explore even close to home.  We took a little trip to Lanai the other day, which is Maui’s neighboring island, and we felt worlds away.  It was so peaceful and the water was so clear and blue!  Its so easy too: Just hop on the ferry and you’re there in
45 minutes!

We brought our Stand-up paddle boards and cruised around, though we were hoping for some surf, i guess the swell didn’t hit yet!  Anyway it was fun fun fun!  enjoy some of my favorite pictures.

Wakesurfing

Hey There!

When I got home from my morning workout session, I was rummaging through some old files I had on my computer. This is what I ran into…

As I was watching this and my other friends on the boat that day, what came to mind was: when at first (or second) you don’t succeed, TRY AGAIN! In life we fall on our faces so very often (my last season) and it’s not so much WHAT happens to us that’s telling, but rather HOW we bounce back.

Think about it in your own life… when do you feel like giving up? When do you feel like just saying “ahhhh screw this, I’m outa here!” In that moment, stop yourself and ask, “am I being a cry baby here?”

Chances are: you are and in your heart, you just know you want to rock it.

So listen to your heart and TRY AGAIN. You won’t regret it!

Alooooha,
Jules
