Day 1

On June 2nd, Chemmy, Lauren, Mark and I took off from London Heathrow bound for Nairobi, Kenya, the stopover place for the rest of the journey starting with a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro and a visit with a Right to Play camp in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

After a brief night stay in Nairobi, we took off on a little short hopper to Kilimanjaro airport, where we were met by our tour guides and whisked off to our hotel in Arusha at Moivaro Coffee Plantation lodge. We had the day off to let our upcoming experience and the “newness of Africa” soak-in. And new it was.

It’s much more temperate than I would have thought and the people are far friendlier and also shyer than I anticipated. The feeling of the place was like nothing I had ever experienced. I’ve been all over the world, from the south Pacific, Europe, North and South America, but nothing, nothing is quite like what we found ourselves in.
