Checked out You Tube videos of DH starts for fun: Vonn, Riesch, Fischbacher, Jules ,Maier- '98, Killy- '68. Vonn & Jules go out harder than Riesch & Fishy. Jules has a snaking motion Vonn doesn't have- Vonn looks to have a really strong midsection ("but of course"). Everyone goes out bent down, whereas Killy stretched his body out high, straight- trying to trip the wand with his ankles at the last possible moment. I think he did this even better, with some more power, later on the pro circuit-which he won the 2 years he raced. Guess there was no money in the World up in the fledgling years. What would his record have been if he had raced into his 30's, like now ? Wonder if "the modern bent down blast- out" could be beaten by updated version of "The Killy"- with more upper body strength ? Guess not- or someone would be doing it (?)
