Very interesting, Dreyfuss: Marchand-Arvier & Fischbacher tie for second @ St. Moritz, only .17 behind Vonn- and both are same height & weight as Jules. Vonn would have beaten them by more if it were a normal length race, via gravity/weight. Fischbacher looked like a really tight,clenched package, strong & compact all the way- arms in- with hands pushing forward (not just out forward) around gates, tight in, "austrian style"-like she's got a rope in her hands pulling her around gate. Looks to me like she's in great overall shape: upper, waist, legs. She looked to be getting really low too. Wonder what Jule's coaches are seeing ? -perfect race to look at video of Arvier & Fischbacher vs. Jules- with all being same build.

Olympic games here we go and watch out for Jules. What happens now? Training in Europe or home to the US, a few days in Maui before training? I have to find a TV for the downhill I'm in Stockholm and going home with the night-train and the TV in the restaurant at work has been moved.

Ok, let's go for the SG tomorrow. I'm going to stop trying to participate in the auctions, the bid was good, then ebay and I got unfrendly what country to put Östersund in, I most certainly placed it in Sweden and ebay stubbornly placed it in US and all of a sudden the time was out, AAARRRRGGGGHHHH. I bought me 2 Tee-shirts and a hoodie to comfort me, I'm still ARGH though it was for a good cause and I wanted to help.

Saw replay of St. Moritz super G. Vonn did get her hands up high sometimes (but not over her head)- but when she did, they didn't linger there like other skiers- she actually threw her hands down fast- maybe helping press skis into snow too (?). The Germans all keep their hands lower-they don't get up around their head. Winner Fischbacher was hands/arms low & forward & in tight, especially- even when not in tuck- real Austrian look of arms/hands leading down the hill. Jules was really good at getting low at times, hands didn't go high, good with arms pulling downhill also-but not in tight as much as Fischbacher. Jules looks to have great balance & touch-looks real good in that dept., Austrians, germans not quite so much- they just look "solid & workmanlike" overall. Vonn has an "on the rails" look-especially in downhill-which I guess doesn't always pay off max. in super G. I think if Vonn doesn't beat herself she's got a lock on downhill-until someone can track like a train like her. Jules could use more strength, I'm guessing (who couldn't -except maybe Vonn & Paerson ? )- and maybe arms in tighter at times like Fischbacher- ?

Killy had SOME kind of record during the first World Cup season in '67- check it out per Google of: "Jean-Claude Killy- the best of the best". Get him on the horn where he hides in Geneva ! -I wanna know his take on the women skiers now-THIS would be interesting. I'd also want to know his take on Bode- seems like winning to Bode ain't a steady priority- it not being part of New Hampshire Hippie-ism. Whereas Killy sez (said): "Winning taste good. It's a joy not an obligation....I love competition".

One thing I noticed in St. Moritz super G part: Lindsey Vonn is just rock (granite) solid in the upper body- (so is Paerson, but Vonn looks the best) -her arms don't wobble around at all-zilch- and unlike a lot of other skiers, her hand never goes flying above her head. The commentator, Christian Cooper, said Vonn is strongest skier on tour . She's got core & upper body strength,for sure-ditto leg strength, but "that's a given". Roger Federer would make a good skier- I think he was born with core strength-he can stand there & just swipe the ball from a totally stable platform-he's got everything else also, but I think that that really puts him in that league of his own. The winner Fischbacher seemed to be pressing more for speed than Vonn (Vonn always seems to be on a smooth gravity track, like Bode) and she seemed to be in tuck more than Vonn (would have to look at a replay). Jules was also really good per min. arm movement-maybe a good sign of tracking smoohtly ?- and she got really low: bingo= #3 finish: "Whey- hey !-Can't be bad !"- as McCartney would say. Ted Ligety takes getting low to the bank- he looks about as good as it gets in that dept.- just won again that way-and he seems to sit back a little. Vonn, Paerson & Bode all have that "sit back & just cruise/jet thru a turn". Don't know how much they really sit back, but they sure have that look often- and they get really low as well, and get great lean & angulation with big time smooth pressure on outside ski. Bode held a great line-best of anyone- in steep upper part of Kitzbuhl downhill doing this- was ahead of everyone on upper part-it didn't throw him one bit, unlike nearly everyone else: "Bode-style impressive". He lost it on the bottom somehow. Jules needs to hire Hans und Franz for core/upper body/arm strength consultation, and not forgetting max. leg strength. Andre Agassi used to run up hills, wonder how good that is ? -If Hans und Franz not available- hire Agassi's trainer Gil- yeah ! Jules doesn't have the superior weight or height, but compared to others neither does Didier Cuche- and he just won Kitzbuhl- using Swiss Ox strength. Jules looks really good in the "going after it & finesse dept." Killy had this for sure- Billy Kidd looked stronger, so did Karl Scranz, but Killy had some kind of "light on his paws zip & balance" (yeah- tell the coaches to get Killy on the horn !- need to get the master's take on this). He'd sure be pumping iron a lot if he was racing now, compared to then. Stenmark-"King Elvis-Ingemar"- was really strong also - saw a magazine photo of him on a beach when he was racing- he had thighs like tree trunks. Vonn gets really, really smooth,fluid transitions to next turn-strength no doubt helping. "I'm just guessing" but I think the stronger you are, the more you can iron out everything else and "toy with the snow". Vonn sure does that, win or lose.
